Article Summary

An article written by Catherine Leffert, in the Dallas Business Journal, on the permanent production facility in Midlothian, Texas.

The Chosen, the largest crowd-funded show in history, has signed a 5-year lease for 900 acres of Midlothian’s Salvation Army camp. This is bringing millions of dollars to Texas. According to executive Producer Derral Eves, “a typical budget per season is anywhere between $12 million and $20 million.” Over half the crew is from Texas, with out-of-state crew staying in local hotels, and several producers have purchased homes in the state. The show is establishing the Texas location as its home base where all pre-production and most shooting will take place from now on.

Austin has been the prime spot for media in Texas in recent years “because of the resources in that area, but putting roots in permanent facilities based in the state, especially outside of Austin, is rare.” The producers of The Chosen are introducing the media industry to Dallas-Fort Worth and “will likely pursue other opportunities in Texas,” making this just the beginning.
