Article Summary

An article written by Kylie Beach on the construction of Capernaum for The Chosen on Eternity News.

The set is being built on land owned by the Salvation Army; part of their 1,000-acre Camp Hoblitzelle and Conference center. The COVID-19 pandemic left the campgrounds vacant and financially strapped. This worked out perfectly when The Chosen wanted to rent out the location. They will use that location for the remainder of the seven seasons, and then the Salvation Army will use the facilities.

In a recent live stream with Tad Eckerle, the project manager from CRC, he stated, “Just like the synagogue, we laid the foundation a couple of weeks ago and we’re already building the structure. Everything will start moving really quickly once all these foundations go in.” The entire film campus is nearly completed and Eckerle is positive about the current pace at which construction is going. Fans will be excited to see the new additions as things are wrapping up for the new film campus.

The ancient town of Capernaum is the home of one Jesus’ disciples, Peter. It is also where the synagogue that Jesus worshipped is located. A recreation is currently being built in Midlothian, Texas. This film set will have several life-sized houses, a synagogue, and fishing wharves on the water that is meant to be the Sea of Galilee.
